Aloo jhol is a curry which is mainly makes in uttar pradesh regions ,which is a best combination with pooris and also with one pot meal like veg pulao ,peas pulao.Among all vegetables kids loves simple potato fry which i make mostly atleast once in a week.

Jhol which means a thin gravy made with all blended spices and there are lots of variations are there in this curry. The gravy tastes best with roti or poori ,but I made with tomatoes and curd to form a gravy and it tasted so good.My kids always like to have north indian gravies in menu because of their spiceness they love to have as a side dish.


Potatoes            : 500 gm

Tomatoes            :150 gm

turmeric powder   : 1 tsp

ginger and garlic paste : 1tsp

cumin seeds       : 1 tsp

salt          : as per needed

red chilli powder : 2 tsp

coriander powder : 1tsp

hing          : pinch

coriander leaves : few sprigs

oil       : 2tbsp

onion : 2 finely chopped

green chillies : 2 finely chopped

garam masala   : 1 tsp

curd  : 2 tbsp

water  : 2 cups


1.Wash potaoes and cut into cube size  and keep aisde.

2. Chop tomatoes and make into fine puree in a blender and keep aside.

3.Heat a pan add oil and add cumin seeds, finely chopped green chillies and add ginger garlic paste.

4.Now add finely chopped onion and stir well untill it turns light brown in color.

5. Add tomato puree and stir well.Stir well untill puree comes closer to oil and add curd now and stir well.

6.Add pototoes and add turmeric powder,salt and red chilli powder. Stir well and add coriander powder and   stir well. Add water and let it cook for five minutes untill potatoes cooks .

7. Add garam masala and chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.Now serve this curry with methi pulao.
