Uppu seedai is a savoury snack made with rice flour and with some spices it is offered as a prasad in south Indian households during krishnastami , yes lord krishna likes this round crispy balls and mostly make during this festival. Krisnastami is round the corner so thought to make this seedai for this festival.
seedai in tamil means rice flour balls and there are so many types of making seedai like sweet version (vella seedai ) and this is a salted version that’s why the name called uppu seedai means salted rice flour balls . Last time I made this savoury seedai but I failed because once u failed while making dough it starts to bursting in oil and be safe while making this but probably this time it made success for me but I got a few cracks not so much but satisfied with my attempt this year.
Rice flour : 1 cup
urad dal flour : 3 tbsp
salt : to taste
sesame seeds : 1 1/2 tsp
cumin seeds : 1 tsp
butter : 2 tbsp
water as per needed
hing : pinch
oil for frying
1.Roast rice flour in a wide vessel until raw smells goes and keep it aside.
2. In the same way roast urad dal flour also and keep it aside make sure it doesn’t turn into brown in color.
3.Now in a wide bowl add both flours and add butter,sesame seeds, cumin seeds ,hing,butter and add slowly water to make a smooth dough make sure the dough should be smooth and no cracks are formed otherwise while frying balls it bursts so be careful.
4. Rest the dough for fifteen minutes and cover it with damp cloth .After fifteen minutes take a small portion of the dough and make round balls and keep aside .
5.Now heat oil in a pan and drop these balls into oil and fry until light golden brown in color.
6.Now serve this prasad for Lord krishna….
